Where’s Ferrum Perpetua: Iron Ursa?
[12/2/2025]
Ya’ll, I goofed.
On my Instagram, I’ve been teasing a new sample chapter, this time directly from the incoming novel! -but, I was always hesitant to set an official date just because I knew I was already dragging my feet a little bit. And then I was evidently still a bit over-ambitious by quietly posting an announcement to the website that it was coming ‘This Month’, with that meaning this last November.
I really thought I’d have it done and posted by then, but I failed. I also checked my website metrics today, thinking it would be tumbleweeds anyway, but it wasn’t, so I was like, ‘oh, shit…’ I mean, we’re not talking like, A LOT of people, but enough to where I felt like I should explain myself and apologize… The good news is that it is coming very soon! It’s about 80% of the way there!
But, I said it was a sample from the actual book, so what’s taking so long? Well, the book is also still painfully in progress, and while much of the material that’s coming in Ferrum Perpetua: Iron Ursa is taken from the manuscript, I’m also injecting a lot of fresh material as well. So, it’s really a Frankenstein of preview samples, and stuff that may remain website exclusive. And then I have to go through and edit it all.
This project is also competing for my time with something else I’ve been working on; a submission for the Willamette Writer’s Timberline Review. Ever since I walked away from a local small press (a fun story for another day), I’ve been exploring new paths to try and get myself out there more as a writer. This is something that has an actual big-girl deadline (December 15) so I’ve been scrambling to complete that in time, meaning Iron Ursa has unfortunately been pushed back as it comes down to the wire. Over the next couple days, I’m basically chaining myself to my desk, so as soon as the Timberline Review submission is complete, then I’ll be working hard to also publish Iron Ursa shortly after.
That said, the Timberline Review is kind of a contest; if my work doesn’t get chosen, then similar to my other short stories, I’ll also likely post it here (if that’s allowed) as I’d hate for a story to go to waste, you know? So, there may be more gifts coming down the line!
Anyway, as a placeholder for Ferrum Perpetua: Iron Ursa, here’s a preview of the Title Card, as well as a snippet from the chapter (which is subject to change as I go through and edit, as it’s a bit of an old piece of writing at this point lol):

As some added content, here are also a couple of ‘BTS’ sketches for the artwork that went into Ferrum Perpetua: Iron Ursa:

And as a final gift, please accept this preview illustration for the next ‘Free-to-Read’ sample I’m planning on releasing after Iron Ursa–

Until next time! And hopefully more updates in general soon to come as well! (I swear I’m alive and I care about this ;-; lol)
